I can't play videos on MSNBC site, I only see a question mark in a tiny blue box

Safari won't play videos on MSNBC site, it just shows a small blue box with a question mark in it.

MacBook Pro, iOS 9.1

Safari > Preferences > Websites > Plug-ins

Enable it and test.
