I have just had my sons iPhone 6 fixed after several months but it is locked to his Apple ID and password to which he has forgotten all the details - how can I get phone working again

Tell him to use Apple's iForgot service or contact their Account Security team, or if you or he is the iPhone’s original owner, take it and its purchase receipt to a physical Apple Store.
