any way to get cross dissolve to behave like opacity slider: not adding footage

I have a series of stills I'm animating ken burns style, and I'd like to add a bunch of cross dissolves to them. But not in a way that causes the stills to extend in duration. I know that this is how cross dissolves work. But is there another type of dissolve I can do that doesn't force me to have to relocate my keyframes every time I add a dissolve? I've already tried the 'Ken Burns' method that's baked into FCPX, but it doesn't allow me to make multiple moves on a still, just the standard push or pan (which is great for single moves). If using the opacity slider is the only way to do it, does any one know of an FCPX plugin that allows for quick 1 second opacity ramp ins/outs without having to fuss with adding and sliding keyframes in the opacity tab of the video animation window?

Hi tmlim,

Thank you for your feedback. Are you doing this on the primary or secondary storyline?

I'm finding that transitions are easier to manage in connected secondary storylines than on the primary 'magnetic' storyline. So I'm adding all my stills as connected clips rather than inserting them in the primary storyline.
