Can I use gift cards for iTunes and a credit card for iCloud?

I want to purchase iCloud storage and I know I need a credit card to do so. However, I don't want to use a credit card for my iTunes/App Store purchases. I only want to use the funds from iTunes gift cards for such downloads. (I don't want to charge games, apps or music to my credit card bill). Is such an arrangement/separation possible? Or will my adding a credit card for iCloud automatically set it up as my payment method on iTunes & the App Store?

If having my credit card available for both is my only option, will iTunes/App Store use any gift card funds first before using my credit card? Will I still be able to see my gift card credit balance as usual? Will I be notified that I'm about to use my credit card for a purchase before downloading?

Sorry for the 20 questions but thanks for any information!

iCloud storage plans and pricing - https://support.apple.com/HT201238 - Pricing for different countries

"Accepted payment methods for iCloud storage upgrades include credit cards, debit cards, and iTunes Store credit. If you don't have enough iTunes store credit to complete your upgrade, you'll be charged the remaining amount. "

How iTunes Store purchases are billed - https://support.apple.com/HT201359 - When you make a purchase, content credits are used first, followed by Gift Certificate, iTunes Card, or Allowance Account credits. Your credit card or PayPal account is then charged for any remaining balance." You can't change the payment type order.
