FCPX effect has adopted a clip

I am trying to apply a raindrop effect to a clip in a project but it seems to have 'adopted' a clip from earlier in the timeline and I can't shake it off. When I do a preview, it shows this wrong clip instead of the one currently selected and if I drag the effect to the clip, it changes that clip to the other one that is stuck to the effect. I have tried trashing the preferences and the cache. How do I fix this?

Effects not visible in inspector I applied a LUT to a clip in the timeline. After doing so, I see the controls in the effects part of the video inspector, but if I click away to another clip and then back to the original clip there is no effects line item for the original clip in the inspector. This is not a "hide/show" issue -- it's just not even an option anymore even though the LUT is still in effect. Disclaimer: I am new to using LUTs and color correction in general; very high probability of user error.

Editing duration of transition clip not working I have a transition clip, one of the standard FCP clips, and it's on the end of the movie. Which is fine. But, if I add another short clip after that it shortens the transition clip to a miniscule amount of 6 frames and won't let me edit its duration. It's almost as if the additional clip is squeezing it up. Editing the duration is just ignored. If I remove anything that's trailing after that transition clip, it reverts to its normal duration.

Clips inserted in timeline are being cropped and I can't change it Dropping clips from library into new Project timeline and every clip is being cropped (zoomed) in from the original. At the same time, a small box is appearing on the right side of the viewer...a red shaded area inside a larger box, apparently indicating the portion of the clip image being shown instead of the full frame. I have tried everything I can with Crop and Transform commands and reset to get the chosen clips to show full frame in playback but nothing works. Inspector shows 100% for Crop and Transform, but the small indicator window says it is cropped in. I've included a screen capture of the right side of the viewer window showing the indicator box. The answer to this is probably blindingly obvious, but I haven't figure out how to correct it:
