apple air pod tone problem ?

I noticed that when I put my air pods in one at a time it only makes one tone in one of the ear buds to say that they are ready for use. But when I put them in my ears at the same time I hear the tone in both of them is this normal I always assumed if you put them in one at a time the tone would sound for both but that doesn't happen unless I put them in at the exact same time .

Hello narutooftheleaf,

Thanks for using Apple Communities.

The tone you receive when placing the AirPod to your ear is a confirmation that your iPhone sound is redirected to your Ear, not to iPhone Speaker anymore. Since then, if with one or with both AirPods, the sound is still not going through the speaker, that's the reason you get only one tone (at one or at both AirPods placed at ear at once).

With regards,

Alefe Bruno

Hello narutooftheleaf.

Making it easier, the tone will play only when the headset icon at the status bar appears.

The tone only confirms that the sound has been redirected from the iPhone to the AirPods. If you place one AirPod it will play immediately in your ear. When you place the second AirPod, the sound is already off the iPhone (the headset icon is already there), so it won't play. If you place both, you'll hear the confirmation at both. But as if you take only one AirPod off, the sound continues at the AirPod (not at the iPhone Speaker), there's no need for a tone.

Hope this helps.

With regards

Alefe ****
