safari, mail, app store not respoding one dayafter update

I was trying the functions of Slack (web-based app) and suddenly Safari chrashed and continued chrashing. Then it triggered mail, app store and even thrash folder (but not other finder windows). I ran Recovery mode-first aid but no problems detected and nothing changed. Would it be possible to return back to the latest stable phase without losing any data or settings?

Maybe. As long as you enabled Time Machine, try the following:

  1. Boot macOS Recovery.
  2. At the Mac OS Utilities screen, select "Restore From Time Machine Backup" > Continue. A Restore from Time Machine screen will appear. Read it then Continue.
  3. When the Select a Restore Source screen appears, select the internal disk. Its default name is "Macintosh HD" but you may have changed it. Continue.
  4. The Select a Local Snapshot screen appears next. Restore From > Local Snapshots on Macintosh HD (or whatever you named its startup disk) will appear in the dropdown menu selection.
  5. If a Local Snapshot Date & Time list populates, select one that corresponds to the "stable phase" you describe. Continue.
  6. A confirmation dialog will appear. Read it then Continue.
  7. A Restoring screen will appear next. That operation won't take long.
  8. A Success screen will appear next, and the Mac will restart.

No. The only way to restore the applications is by reinstalling macOS unless you have a Time Machine backup of the drive from prior to this date but using the same version of macOS. If you backup consists partly of each version of macOS, then you cannot restore anything from it but your files from your Home folder. You still have to erase the drive to install a new copy of macOS.
