Hawking USB adapter question

I have a Hawking HWU54G USB wi-fi adapter that's based on the Zydas ZD1211 chipset. I found the OS X driver for it and it appears to be working on my iMac G3 DV SE. My problem is, how do I get to my Airport base? The adapter is searching for a network, but doesn't see my base station.
Any suggestions?
