Slow iMac

My iMac is old and getting very slow. Any tips on speeding it up would be appreciated.

The best way is to clean it out: Back it up; Erase the drive; Reinstall macOS. Then if possible add more RAM. More on the expensive side would be to add an SSD either inside or externally (depends on the ports available with your model.)
