Question: Apple calendar can't accept invitations

When receiving an meeting invitation in mail using 10.13.3 I double click the attachment and it appears on my calendar but I can't accept the invitation. So the person sending the invitation doesn't know if I plan to attend.

Hello JayB1008,

Thanks for that info and choosing the Apple Support Communities. If I understand correctly, you are unable to accept invitations to events sent to you in the Calendar app on your Mac, even though the event will show on your calendar. First, see if you can send a reply to the invitation and if the person that created the event receives your reply with these steps:

Do one of the following:

  • Click Accept, Decline, or Maybe in the email.

  • Open the event attachment to add the event to Calendar. Then, in Calendar, click the Notifications button User uploaded file in the toolbar, click New, then click Accept, Decline, or Maybe.

Next, use safe mode to start up your Mac as it does the following things:

  • Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed
  • Loads only required kernel extensions
  • Prevents startup items and login items from opening automatically
  • Disables user-installed fonts
  • Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

Log into your user account and test the issue while in safe mode and then restart normally and test the issue again.

Thanks jameson.h,

Unfortunately, there is no way to accept, decline to maybe in the email. Clicking notification in the calendar offers NEw or Replied, but neither one presents any options to accept, decline or maybe.

Jay

Thanks for replying, JayB1008, and that additional info, it really helps! To help isolate this further, are you able to send invites to contacts and receive a notification that they have accepted or declined?

Next, if you're not able to send invites and you have tested your issue while your Mac was started up in safe mode, you can make a backup of your personal data and put a fresh copy of macOS on your Mac using OS X Recovery mode, as that will reinstall Mail on your Mac.

thanks sterling r,

I am able to send invitations and do receive some acceptances that show up in the meeting as green checks next to the name. Others may not reply and just attend.

I haven't done the Safe mode tests yet, too much to do today. Hopefully will have time to test tomorrow.

Regards,

Jay
