I lost my airpods and have been unable to reach Apple to let them know. they are still in the warrantyperiod. what can I do?

I lost my AirPods and have been unable to find them with Find my IPhone.

they are still under warranty and I would think they may not be covered, but I do not want someone else to be able to have access to the warranty.
