My I phone 8 will not text or call any of my local contacts until I add the area code. I have over 500 contacts. How do I ad the a code without ding it manually?

My IPhone 6 worked fine without the age code and all of the contacts were transferred over.

Call any of my stored contacts now says "the number is not recognised" If I call one of my contacts stored on my iPhone XS, it says "the number is not recognised", but if I dial the number using the keypad, it works fine. Dial Assist Hello. My dad uses the dial assist feature on his iPhone 12 so he doesn't have to put in the area code when he makes calls. A few weeks ago it stopped working even though Dial Assist is on in Settings. This bothers him because he doesn't put the area code when he is creating contacts and it takes too long to fix his contacts because he has a lot. Any ideas why this is happening. His iPhone is running iOS 15.3.1 and his cell carrier is AT&T

dial assist hi , we have 4 iphones in our house and 3 of them have a problem. when making calls , the phone says number doesn't exist. seems to work when you dial using keypad and not contacts or favourites. scene says dial assist. fault seem to be something to do with applying international dial code. Also, one of the phones has stopped allowing face recognition. On this phone , i tried to delete a contact ( to try and reenter it) but it wants a google email password?
