Need help with user profile

I cannot change the name of the user profile. It asks for user and password, when I put them in, it says it is incorrect. This is extremely perplexing because I can sign in just fine to the MacBook. But when in the settings and I hit the lock icon it consistently says that either the user or the password is incorrect. Please help asap.

MacBook Pro TouchBar and Touch ID, macOS High Sierra (10.13.3)
