I received a text saying Apple ID is to expire. Can this happen or was it a scam?

Apple id Hi, I have just received a message from ‘apple’ saying my Apple ID is due to expire and I need to confirm my ID by following a link. When I click on the link it takes me to a page that is not on the apple site, and there’s no lock in the search bar... Unsure if it’s a con or genuine?
