How did it crack? If you dropped it, accidental damage isn’t covered. Some defects may be covered under warranty. They would evaluate it for accidental damage. They will look for damage of the case near the crack, as well as whether or not there’s pitting along the cracks where pieces of glass came out. Here are the terms:

We’ll examine your iPhone before we confirm the repair price. Most screen repairs are caused by accidental damage, which isn’t covered under the Apple warranty.

If your screen cracks due to a manufacturing defect, it’s covered by the Apple warranty.

Why, 3 hours after KiltedTim provided the correct response did you feel you needed to add your response? And your response, which says "We’ll examine your iPhone before we confirm the repair price," would lead someone to think you work for Apple. And you don't.

I know you mean well, but you do seem to have the need to enter a thread after others have provided a response, even after Apple has marked their response as "Recommended." Most of us who routinely respond here, don't get into a thread after it's been marked Recommended.

You might want to rethink your strategy on this forum.

I composed that on an iPhone and formatting (i.e. a quote box) wasn't an option. I tried editing it later to place it in a quote box but the time to do so had expired.

Also - I'm not concerned if a post is "Apple recommended". I've seen posts that merely link to an Apple Support page and get "Apple recommended". I am concerned that everyone's default response to a question about the warranty and cracked glass is that it could only be due to accidental damage. Everyone seems so hostile to my pointing out that there are cases where a crack can be covered under warranty if it results from a manufacturing defect. Apple even states that ("If your screen cracks due to a manufacturing defect, it’s covered by the Apple warranty.") in their page on iPhone glass repair. Does Apple need to change this to "All screen repairs are caused by accidental damage."?

So for the original poster (if you're still reading this), before you go in for an evaluation, understand what may or may not be covered under warranty. Here's a photo (not mine) of an iPhone 6+ that someone claims had a crack when the box was opened. It has all the signs of a manufacturing defect. It's a single hairline crack, there are no voids in the crack that look like impact damage, and the case looks perfect. There are plenty of reports of people getting glass replacement (or a a replacement device) under warranty, although sometimes it requires escalation.

Let me start over. There are procedures for evaluation of cracked glass for warranty coverage eligibility. This is where I found the photo of the hairline crack:

reposed:

No. It's fine. I'm a former Apple Store employee who is Mobile Device Certified. As long as it's a single hairline crack with no point of impact, OP is good. He can go to any Apple Store and get it replaced. Betting that this phone is so new, they don't even have screen replacements for it, you'll probably get a brand new phone. Sorry that happened.

And a follow-up:

That's not what I'm saying. Usually in cases where the screen is cracked we look at where the crack begins and ends. If there's some sort of indentation there from a point of impact, I would deem that as an out of warranty repair. Obviously the the screen cracked because the phone was dropped. It would be marked as accidental damage. Now if if this was caused by the shipper. Then the customer would have to take it up with them. The shipper would then be liable for whatever damages occurred. Apple couldn't and wouldn't be able to do anything about it. It's out of their hands. They only see the damage.

As was pointed out last night (and I chose to not comment then), you really seem to need to get the last word in. The question was answered correctly and you know it was. I still don't understand why you felt you had to write a book about this after an appropriate and correct response was provided? And I stand firm in my comment that you really need to reconsider your strategy.
