If 'elegant' means 'neat and well-dressed' and applies only to appearance, this might fit the description.
In the same manner as the elegance of a swan gliding swiftly across the pond, though, the calm and serene appearance belies the furious paddling going on below the surface.
Here, the first stage is carried out by the formula below, entered in C2 and filled down to C10.

I think the easiest is to think of it as subtracting the negatives, which turns them positive....
e.g. =SUMIF(A2:A11,">0") - SUMIF(A2:A11,"<0")
