Finder dissapeared from top tab

Product is iMac, macOS High Sierra v.10.13.3

Problem.

Finder tab disappeared from the top and a grey colour covers half the screen and disables:

* side by side split screen,

* mission control to separate screens and

* when in full screen cannot find buttons to exit and esc doesn’t work to bring in the dock,

* plus of course all the Finder functions aren’t available.

What I tried unsuccessfully so far.

Force quit Applications to relaunch Finder

Cut power & restart.

Can someone please help me restore Finder tab and eliminate the grey screen?

New to HS. Help with Finder and Desktops Am a slow starter. Just upgraded from El Capitan to High Sierra. All fine except from a couple of things that drives me up the wall. First: How can I make Finder NOT open new windows in a tab of a previously opened folder? Option in Finder preferences "Open folders in tabs instead of new windows" is duly unticked. Second: The "desktops" (called "spaces" or something in High Sierra). I have two screens. In El Capitan, I used four "desktops". Pressed e.g. Cmnd + > to change, and the pair of them (one on each screen) did exactly that. The Mac top menu bar remained on the same screen in all cases. It was beautiful. On Hight Sierra, it's absolute chaos. The desktops need to be changed one by one. The Mac top menu bar jumps randomly from one screen to the other if I have windows for the same program open in both. Switching program with Cmnd + tab fails every other time as the required program simply won't show up. Etc, etc, etc.... Can someone please help out? Or are there any third party with some app that can help?

High Sierra Finder Issues Having issues using finder after update to High Sierra. Finder gets stuck grayed out as if I'm still in another application even though I've clicked on Finder, or Command+Tabbed back to Finder.The Finder window will remain grayed out and the only thing I can do is move between files, but cannot open them using key commands or clicking. Only temporary fix I've found is to go to Force Quit and restart Finder. But that can last anywhere between one new click in Finder up to a whole day. It's random.I'm up-to-date on the Apple updates, any help appreciated.
