transferring and accessing photos from old Mac to new Mac

I cannot migrate photos from the old Mac book to the new Mac book so copied them to an external drive and then copied them to the new laptop. The problem is I can't access some and the ones that have been transferred seem to be dumped randomly into the photo app. I can't choose them for mail messages or insert into documents.

unfortunately you won't be able to use migration assistant so the best thing you could do is take your files and put them on an external drive and then copy the files from the external drive to your new Mac

or if you updated your old Mac you could use migration assistant but that would to a bit longer and it may slow down that Mac or worse.....you lose all your files
