iPhone 6S Plus not offering iOS software update

My husband’s iPhone 6S Plus offers the iOS 11 update, but not the software update 11.2.6. When we try to update to the iOS 11, an error always occurs.

See If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support. If you cannot update directly on the device use iTunes, or vice versa. Make sure there is a working backup of the device first.
