External Microphone not working correctly with MacBook Pro 2017

I have a MacBook Pro 2017 that has the USB-C ports, not the traditional USB port. When connecting external mic I had to use my adapter. However, the audio was horrible. I then tried it on a friend’s computer that has a regular USB port and it worked fine. He told me the adapter is what was causing the poor sound quality because the mics cord loses quality when adapting. I even tried a different adapter just in case mine was acting up. No luck. What do I do? Mac made these computers horribly complicated now with USBC ports and decided not to make direct cable lines, only adapters.
