When searching for purchased songs iTunes only offers downloads.

When I search for purchased songs or albums to add them to a playlist, iTunes only offers a download even though the items are available in the Library.

I have unchecked 'Always check for available downloads' but it doesn't help.

I suspect that the problem is related to my iTunes library being on a drive separate to my boot drive, but I thought that was quite common.

I am using iTunes for Mac 12.7.3

Mac Pro (Mid 2012), macOS Sierra (10.12.3)

I mean that when I am building a playlist, as I am wont to do, I put my requirements into the search box near the top right hand corner of the application. I am simply searching for a track, oblivious as to where or when I might have acquired it. When I find what I seem to be after and come to drag it into the playlist for assessment, if it is a previous iTunes purchase, a dialogue appears stating "Adding iTunes purchases to playlists will download a copy to your computer." This will happen whether the tune is in my library or not.

Of course I can take the long way round and go to 'Songs' and search in there. Then I will get an indication of the status of the item I am after and I can add it to the playlist. However it is a bit of pain to have to keep doing that.
