Terminal CPU usage (open vs minimized)

Hi all,

I recently noticed that Terminal.app seems to be taking up quite a bit of CPU time when it is open versus when the window is closed. In specific, I have a script that is piping out about 4-5 lines per second with color-coding (ANSI) and I have noticed that if I keep the terminal window open to monitor progress CPU goes up to 30-40% versus below 10% when the window is minimized.

I have tried different fonts, backgrounds (no transparency) and profiles as well as dropping the font size, but none seem to make a huge difference.

Anyone seen this and have any suggestions on how to get terminal to render (which is where I feel is the problem) without so much CPU needs?

iMac, macOS Sierra (10.12.6)
