Airplay from iPhone to Apple TV stuttering

Hi everyone. I recently purchased a 4k Apple TV and when trying to airplay a video from our iPhone to the Apple TV, the picture on the tv is not smooth, but rather jittery and awful to watch. This never used to be an issue with our Apple TV 2 and 3, what’s changed? Has anyone encountered this issue at all?

Hello phollibone88,

Congratulations on your new 4K Apple TV! It's my understanding that the quality of the images isn't as expected. I can surely see how this could be concerning, especially since this didn't occur with your previous Apple TV 2 and 3. I'm happy to help.

First, confirm you've got a strong Wi-Fi signal and there's no interference.

If your content gets interrupted or your network lags

If you have a weak Wi-Fi signal or interference from a nearby device, like a microwave or baby monitor, follow these steps:

  1. Make sure that you use the recommended settings for your Wi-Fi router.
  2. Move or turn off other devices that might cause interference.
  3. If possible, connect your Apple TV directly to your router with an Ethernet cable instead of using Wi-Fi.

Your AirPlay connection might get interrupted when you lock your device, put it to sleep, or switch to a different app.
