Garage Band clicking that is NOT the metronome

Hi, I'm recording on Garage Band 10.2 on a 2011 MacBook. I'm getting a periodic clicking on my recordings that is not from the Metronome, which I turn off. In an hour-long podcast, for example, the clicking will start, say, five minutes in and continue for five to 10 minutes, then disappear, possibly to re-appear later, sometimes not. I cannot figure this out, please help. (Not using mics, recording raw into laptop/GarageBand.)

Hmm, that's an interesting idea. I'll try to suss that out, thanks. (I do have a mic but haven't been using it for various stupid reasons, that's another idea, to use it and see if results are different. Thanks!)
