Macbook Pro battery drains in 30 minutes, Help!

I have a macbook pro 13 inch mid-2010. I realize the laptop is going on 8 years old but I can't seem to figure out why the system is draining my battery so quickly. It lasts upwards of 40 minutes on battery on a good day. Before settling on a new purchase to upgrade, I was hoping someone could help me get a little more life out of this bad boy.

Nobody here would recommend an aftermarket battery outside of what OWC's NuPower brand or perhaps one sold by iFixit. There's a lot of junk out there, especially if it costs substantially less than what Apple charges for the service. The battery management system is designed around operating with an OEM battery, and you're just hoping the quality and the operation are up to Apple's standards.


Apple still stocks the OEM A1322 battery, but your machine is considered vintage. Theoretically you might be able to get an Apple Authorized Service Provider to order one and install it in California, but repair service is officially cut off for your machine elsewhere (except maybe the country of Turkey). The part still is in inventory as it was used up until the 13" mid-2012 MacBook Pro that was discontinued in 2012. However, Apple probably wouldn't order one, and in any case you've installed an aftermarket battery, which is considered a bar to receiving any kind of hardware service.
