Seeing new DVD/CD player

I have just purchased a couple year old iMac and having trouble getting my new DVD/CD player to recognize on the computer. It says it can be used on OS system. Running El Capitan 10.11.6. Any help?

As stated, unless you put a disk in it it won't "show up". Also,

depending on how your Finder preferences are set, it may only

show up in the side bar of an open window.

If no disc is in, you can see if it is connected by going to

Applications->Utilities->System Information. On the left

hand side click hardware and then select the interface by which

you connected the drive (probably USB). It should show up

there even if there is no disc inserted.

Personally, I have two different types of LG drives and they work fine.
