Can't update iPhoto in my High Sierra MacBook Air

I downloaded an update to my MacBook Air OS from Maverick to High Sierra. Now I've lost iPhoto in my desktop apps. I tried going to Mac App store and they say iPhoto not available. The iPhoto icon shows up on my desktop box but it is greyed out and struck out with a circle and bar and I can't open it. I clicked on it and the message said I have to download an update from the app store. What do I do to get my iPhoto or the equivalent into my MacBook Air apps folder so I can use iPhoto or its equivalent? Please help? I'm kind a dummy when it comes to this stuff so if someone could put it in laymen's terms, that would be just so helpful. Help!

Mac OS X 10.10.3 and newer include Photos, which is intended as a replacement for iPhoto and can import its library. If you'd like to go on using iPhoto in addition to or instead of switching to Photos, clickhereand try following the instructions; you'll only be able to do so if you previously got iPhoto from or associated it with the Mac App Store.

Let's clarify a few things:

iOS is for iPads and iPhones, High Sierra is macOS.

iPhoto 9.6.1 is the last version of iPhoto, and installing/upgrading to High Sierra does not remove iPhoto.

There is no "Images" folder, photos are stored in your "Pictures" folder, and installing High Sierra doesn't delete an iPhoto Library.

If you previously owned iPhoto 9.6.1, it should be available for download from the Purchases tab of the App Store app:

now the icon of iPhoto is grey with a bar

Then it's not version 9.6.1

Bless You! Your simple mention of photos instead of iPhoto in your response was a great help. It got me off of being fixated on the iPhoto desktop icon and took me further down to the Photos icon app. I know, I should have figured that out myself, but sometimes just a tiny nudge is a HUGE help especially for a computer-challenged person like me! I got into the photos app and was able to figure things out, but was unable to get there without your help. May all your computer problems/issues in the future fix themselves!!!🙂

I have a similar problem, I updated my iOS to High Sierra and now the icon of iPhoto is grey with a bar and - most importantly - I do not have my iPhotoLibrary in the Images folder, I only have the Photos one (before the update I had both). If I try to update iPhoto I get the message that it is not available in the App Store. The version I had installed was 9.6. What should I do now? Have all my photos &co disappeared?

Note: iPhoto 9.6.1 is compatible with High Sierra though, if you kept up with past iPhoto updates.
