External APFS Drive Causing Kernal Panic

I'm running 10.13.3 on 2 machines. A 2013 Mac pro and a 2013 Mac Book Pro retina. I have isolated these panics to a new 12TB Iron Wolf Pro in a an Orico single drive enclosure.

I decided to be cutting edge and set it up using the new APFS system and at first it seems to be working fine and running great. I have been moving data over to it using Carbon Copy Cloner, but today it starting causing kernel panics.

I tried both machines, new USB cable, nothing else connected, etc. Result is the same. The device will mount and seems to function at first but after that the system panics. If I try to open disk unity, the the panic seems to be immediate. I imagine there's a log of this if anyone wants to see it, but I have confirmed that it only happens when the external drive is plugged in.

Any ideas?
