I moved from att to Verizon and went from a 7 to an 8 iphone. I backed up the phone, logged in and transferred what I thought was everything. However none of my messages or contacts came over......
How do I get them to come over to the new phone since I must turn the 7 back in to att and would like to keep all my messages?

If you restored your iCloud backup, messages should have been restored from that backup. Contacts should have been restored from that backup also unless they were already stored in iCloud. Did you follow this procedure:

Yes and that’s why I’m on here asking if anyone had any other solution. I’ll just take it back because it seems to have other glitches too, like not sounding when I receive messages even though everything is turned on.
Did you enabled Contacts via Settings > Apple ID > iCloud > Contacts (turn on)?
Yes, I enabled all that but still none of my contacts or messages came over. I’m wondering if there’s a way to only save to the SIM card like in the old days?
Did you sign into the iPhone 8 with the Apple ID you used on your iPhone 7?
Same Apple ID I’ve always used, never changed it. Same one I’m using now.
Did you restore from an iCloud backup or an iTunes backup? Perhaps there was something corrupt in the iCloud backup? Have you considered restoring from an iTunes backup instead?
No, I think I’ll just take it back to the store and make them transfer everything like they should have done to begin with!
