Podcast Ranking seems odd

Hi there,

My podcast is called Everyone Loves Guitar. We've only been around 7 months, but during that time, we've put out close to 200 Episodes

We also have over 60, 5 * Ratings.

With the exception of one or two other "Guitar" shows, we have more shows and higher ranks than most of the rest.

Yet, when you enter "Guitar" search in the store... We come up closer to the bottom than the top.

Can anyone give me any reasons why this might be - and... if there is a "solution" - some guidance on how to rank higher. "Work harder" can't be the answer here lol as we're producing daily shows.

Anyway, thanks in advance and hope this doesn't come across as complaining. I'm just trying to understand how the system works, if in fact, anyone has any insight here at all

Take care, Craig

Craig - Correct - keep doing what you are doing.

In your libsyn account go to "Destinations" and then click on "Edit" for libsyn classic feed - there you will see a field called "Author" - in that box you can put in some info about you the host - this shows up under your title - so keep it very brief and do NOT spam that box. Something like "Craig Garber world renown Guitar Instructor" or something similar where guitar is included - will help.

Then when you publish new episodes in your libsyn account - under tab 2 - where you put in the title and description - scroll down to the bottom and you will see the iTunes author tag at the episode level - put in something there as well. Again do NOT spam.

The search results in iTunes and Apple Podcasts are sorted based on the total number of subscribers ALL time. So as a relatively new show of just 7 months - you are competing against other shows that have been around for 5 or 10 or more years in iTunes / Apple Podcasts. The key to move up the ranks is to drive your audience to subscribe to your show. Ratings and reviews do NOT matter for search result placement - nor do number of episodes - just the relevance of your shows title and author tags to the phrase searched for and then sorted by the total number of subscribers all time each show had.

Apple wants you to drive your audience to iTunes and Apple Podcasts app to subscribe - so make sure you do exactly that.

Rob, perfect.

thanks man... I'll put Craig Garber, Guitar Enthusiast moving forward

I'm not expecting to be #1 but just to be above the fold when someone enters "guitar" and at the rate I'm publishing (although we are going to test moving to 3-4 episodes shortly), I gotta believe it won't be long before being above the fold happens.

Really appreciate your input, CG
