Since I upgraded my iMac to El Capitane, when I connect my iphone 4 it will not display my photos so I can transfer them to my Mac

My iPhone photos do not appear on iMac photo? I am trying to transfer photos from my iPhone to my iMac. I am in Photos but no photos from my iPhone appear? I am connected via USB. I have clicked on my device in Photos and nothing happens?
