Aluminum vs stainless steel apple watch

I am considering buying the Apple watch 3. The Stainless steel version is several hundred dollars more expensive? How does it compare to the aluminum version? What are the differences between the aluminum and stainless steel versions? The Apple website provides no information on the differences.
