is iphone 8+ the first one to have a dedicated jack

Did all the iphones prior to iphone 8(+) have standard jack ports? My iphone 8+ cord and port are an exclusive design. I assumed all iphones had this feature, but I'm being informed otherwise while searching for cords for my non apple devices.

iPhone 8 Plus, null

No. The iPhone 8/8+/X are the first ones from Apple with Qi wireless charging. The iPhone 7/7+ were the first ones to do away with the headphone jack. A lot of it had to do with making it thinner as well as eliminating a weakness for water resistance.

The Lightning port has been around since the iPhone 5 and iPad 2.

Thanks. I just remembered my co-worker has an iphone 6 with a standard port. Is there an adapter to make my iphone 8+ earbuds' jack compatible with my pc computer port? Having a hard time finding some good earbuds for it out of the gazillion options out there.

Lawrence described the adapter that should come in the box. There are also Bluetooth headphones. Also there are a variety of ways you can have a headphone jack and still charge via the Lightning port.

Ya, the adapter I have is for plugging other devices' jacks into my phone. I want the reverse...an adapter that let's me plug my iphone earbuds into my pc computer...so my buds would end up having a universal jack to plug into my computer. Probably nonexistent and I don't even know if I'm making any sense anymore. Also, I'm not interested in wireless earbuds, or bluetooth for this particular use.

Thanks for all the replies.

Oh. You mean the Lightning EarPods. Those aren't iPhone 8/8+ specific. They'll work with any iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with a Lightning connector and iOS 10 or later.

I'm not sure anyone would make something that specific. That's really a specialty device meant only for use with Apple devices. Most adapters are for a generic device (like analog headphones) to work in a specialty application - like a headphone jack to connect via USB or Lightning when there isn't a headphone jack.

You mean sort of a reverse adapter. Unfortunately it doesn’t exist, and can’t for technical reasons - the lightning plug requires power for the 4 microcircuits in it, and an audio jack doesn’t supply any power.

Could be technically feasible, but it would require DC-in to power it. I’ve even got a USB to coax barrel connector that might do that with a PC if such an adapter existed. But in the end there’s no real demand for such an adapter just to connect with a proprietary set of earbuds. Anyone looking to develop such an adapter would conclude it’s just easier for the customer to use analog earphones if there‘s a headphone jack.
