A few of my top sites show blank. When clicked they function properly but when I leave the page and return to safari they stay blank.
Some retain an old page which is not the most recent one I have looked at on that site.
Using High Sierra.
I tried the suggestion of leaving unticked the box about "Never use font sizes smaller than" to no avail?
Have tried the blue pin also?

Delete TopSites.plist and test.
Close all windows and quit all applications.
Hold "option" key down and click "Go" menu in the Finder menu bar.
Select "Library" from the dropdown.
Library > Safari > TopSites.plist
Right click the TopsSites.plist file and select "Move To Trash”.
Close windows.
Restart and relaunch Safari.
Test.
Delete TopSites.plist and test.
Close all windows and quit all applications.

Select "Library" from the dropdown.
Library > Safari > TopSites.plist
Right click the TopsSites.plist file and select "Move To Trash”.
Close windows.
Restart and relaunch Safari.
Test.
Empty Caches
Safari > Preference > Advanced
Checkmark the box beside "Show Develop menu in menu bar".
Develop menu will appear in the Safari menu bar.
Click Develop and select "Empty Caches" from the dropdown.
Note: This will remove all website icons. But they will be restored once a user visits the sites again.
This completely reset my top list and it looks good.
Several of the icons remain blank however. I'm starting to think it is the sites themselves that are the issue although one of them is Apple which seems strange.

Several of the icons didn't change. No visible difference.
