Can't import AVCHD to iMovie after High Sierra update

Just checked around and it seems like the advice is to use a third party program to process the AVCHD files into a format iMovie can import properly. I can get grainy footage imported but no sound. This pretty much renders imovie useless as my video camera only processes AVCHD files. This is frankly ridiculous. Has anyone had a response from Apple as to when they will fix the issue?

Problem importing DV to iMovie with Mac Hi,It worked fine until a few days ago, but suddenly I can no longer import DV videos into iMovie. IMovie recognizes the camera, but when I click Import nothing happens. Imovie 10.1.1.4 - import of video has audio stutter but plays fine on quick time and every other device I am importing 4k videos into iMovie 10.1.1.4 that now have audio stutter. The video clips are only 10 seconds long and play fine on my Macbook Air 2018 version in quick time as well as my iPad mini and my windows computer. I filmed this video on a google pixel in 4k and downloaded from google photos directly to the MacBook Air. Can anyone advise what I can try to fix the stutter. If I play the files in finder that are fine. It is only when i import them into iMovie. Thank You

iMovie export - movies good audio good stills grainy Macbook Air. High Sierra. My project appears good within iMovie 10.1.10 app. iMovie says export 'successful'. After export, all looks good, Movies, & audio good except all the still .jpeg's are "grainy" looking. Exporting to quick time. Exporting 720p - faster speed for better quality. Multiple tries...very very frustrated.
