New MacBook says "USB accessories disabled" for iPhone 7

Just bought a new MacBook Pro with two USB-C ports. Of course it needs an adaptor for everything else to be conncected to Mac. Bought that. Now trying to charge and connect an iPhone7 and surprise surprise, it shows "USB Accessories Disabled", because of course Iphone7 doesn't have a USB-C charging cable. Here it goes again - everything that supposed to be simpler is made more complicated again... it's been that you could not connect Apple devices with other brands, now you can't connect Apple devices in between themselves! How do I connect an iPhone to Mac without buying something again?

Whoa there ! As far as I know Apple stuff has been able to connect to other brands and other Apple products. Your iPhone7 has a Lightning socket on it,so—- you’d need a USB-C to regular USB Socket adapter then use the supplied USB to Lightning cable( the one that came with your iPhone) or just bypass a step and get a USB-C to Lightning cable.plug one end into your new Mac, the other end into your iPhone-that should be it. You can also turn on sync via WiFi, but that won’t help you with charging.

Well I tried

Thanks Johnb! Yes, that would be an option. But.. What I still prefer is to simply connect with what I have without getting extras, i.e. connect an iphone7 with a 'USB to lightning' cable through the Moshi's USB-C Multiport Adapter (Apple certified) to a MacBook Pro. It seems a non-brainer that this should work, but it doesnt. Somehow I get an iphone trying to make a connection with Mac, but Mac throws this "USB accessory disabled". Ive tried checking all connections, restarting Mac, restarting SMC.. nothing worked. Very annoying.
