How do I save a Time Machine Backup?

How do I prevent Time Machine from deleting the oldest backup when the disk is full? I tried to copy and paste a folder using Finder and got a message saying the folder could not be modified. Should I just enter Time Machine and copy, for example my iPhoto or Photos Library?

iMac, macOS Sierra (10.12.5)

Enter Time Machine, go to the backup you want to restore from, and select the desired file. Then click Restore or control - click to get an option to Restore the file to a location other than the original location.

You can't.

Buy a larger drive to use with it.
