All Apple USB-A power supplies are interchangeable and officially supported by Apple for use on any iOS device. It should also be faster. It should max out at 2100 mA (10.5W) input on a USB-A power adapter.

Using an Apple 12W or 10W USB power adapter charges some Apple devices and accessories faster than a 5W power adapter.

There's also USB Power Delivery for USB-C power adapters, where an iPhone X can take marginally more current than the maximum from a USB-A power adapter. It would require Apple's USB-C to Lightning cable. I don't think it's worth it, but it's available as an option.
