power adapter works but no light at adopter connection point and no power

I am using macbook pro 15.6'. Till yesterday it was working fine but sudden today i found my adopter point is not lighting up once i connect the port. The adopter is providing power when i touch i can feel the power and even after connecting the to laptop power port i can feel power on my laptop body. Can anyone suggest what problem it can be and how to solve it?

Try a different wall socket.

Try a different charger

Try resetting the SMC http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964

Try running the AHT /Diagnostic http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1509 Not definitive by any means, but may kick out an error code.

In or out of warranty you can get a free over the counter 'Apple Service Diagnostics' test :

What model is it? Not sure what "15.6'" means.

I've had an experience when everything just locked up. No lights worked including the battery indicator lights. I tried the SMC reset and everything. The fan was powered down. The only thing that seemed be happening was a faint electronic hum coming from inside. My solution was to completely power it down by pulling the battery connector. I've read about similar cases, and either the battery connector removal, or waiting for the battery to run down before recharging would do anything.

Kappy recommended an Apple Store, which is a good source of help if you can access one. If not, Apple Authorized Service Providers are different in that they might charge a fee for a diagnostic.
