Lost "sent" mailbox

Somehow I've lost the "sent" mail box in one gmail account (IMAP).

One account of 3. In the other 2 accounts the "sent" boxes are still there. And mail from those accounts shows up in them.

When I go the web mail page for the account in question - there is a "sent mail" box there with recent messages.

I've looked in OS's Library and found an account named AosIMAP-gene4318 that has a sent mail folder but does not show recent activity (I just sent email from that account)

There's another account named IMAP-gene4318@imap.gmail.com that does not have a sent mail box in it.

The AosIMAP-gene4318 and MAP-gene4318@imapg.gmail.com are a mystery to me. i.e. I don't know the significance or how they are different.

How do I get the missing box back?

Running: OS X 10.10.5 (Yosemite ) Mail ver. 8.2

Try re-indexing the mailboxes. This can take awhile if you have a lot of mail.

Reindex messages For El Capitan, try looking in V3. Sierra use V4. High Sierra use V5.

Exactly what did you do to lose it? Have you tried quitting then re-opening Mail on the computer? These account mailboxes are created automatically when the account is created. So, if nothing works delete this particular account then create it again. Be sure you know the required account info: your email login username and password, Incoming mail server and outgoing (SMTP) mail server.

The box suddenly wasn't there. I sent a message - looked for Sent to see if it's gone and Sent wasn't there

I've quit Mail and restarted, I've shut down my Mac and re-booted, I've re-built the mailbox, I've "repaired permissions" and none make any difference.

I considered deleting account and building another - but this is a heavily used account and I'm fearful of losing old mail messages.

I you could point me to a "How-to" save and have access to the old stuff, I'd appreciate it.

Removing the account in Mail doesn't delete anything if you are using IMAP which you should since it's with Google Gmail's IMAP account.
