27" iMac - 2nd monitor questions

Hi to all!

I just bought a new 27" iMac (I'll receive it next week).

1. I've been using a Samsung SyncMaster 2253BW as a 2nd monitor (so far with a 21,5" iMac). Could I still keep on using it, although I won't have the same screen resolution as the coming 27" ?

2. Would you have a good deal suggestion for a 2nd monitor purchase? My eyes are 90% of the time on the iMac screen, so I don't need the top of the line for the 2nd monitor.

1/ The size or resolution of a second screen doesn’t have to match. Ideally, you would want the same pixel size though, to ease the transition of moving the mouse pointer or window from one screen to the other.

2/ Similar brightness, contrast and color gamut are desirable, so too much low end could drive you crazy at the differences.

No particular reason why you could not continue using the Samsung monitor. If this monitor isn't a 27" model then it would be no better than before. The larger screen of your new iMac already has a larger screen. You did not tell us why you need the second monitor since you now only use it 10% of the time.

Thanks to all!

I didn't say that I don't use the second monitor, it's just that 90% of the time, my eyes are on the iMac screen.

I love having two monitors for managing windows, seing the Finder and the Web (of a software) at the same time, etc.

But if I would decide to change the second monitor, any suggestion (the Samsung is getting old, I may like a better one).

There are so many good ones available these days. I would favor any that are using the same or similar LG panel used in the iMac. It's an outstanding display. I have a second 27" monitor with the LG panel that I used on another computer. It was made by Nexeus. Based on my experience I would recommend them.

You can still use your Samsung. Please use Adapters for connecting devices to the Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) port on your Mac - Apple Support to locate the correct adapter
