Whilst charging my iPad over night i woke up to find the colours to be messed up (splotches of red, green and yellow) I know this was caused by heat because this had happened before but not so bad and faded over time, also it was extremely hot. I was wondering if there may be a solution or if i should take it to be repaired/ replaced.

Take it in to get repaired/replaced. If it is out of warrant you may be offered an out of warranty replacement that will cost about 60% of the price of a new one. If it's under warranty and they determine that it's a manufacturing defect then they may replace it for free, but all of that is at Apple's discretion.
In hindsight, the first time it did that you probably should have taken it in.
