“Final Cut Pro Trial” doesn't open earlier FCPX files?

I have ealrier Final Cut Pro X files (.fcpevent, .fcpproject) from 2012. I want to see if the current FCP X opens it, but the “Final Cut Pro Trial” didn't open the file. Is it because it is a trial version? Will it open if I purchase the newest one? I don't want end up buying it and being not able to open it. Thanks.

Most likely those are pre-10.1 projects. It has nothing to do with the trial version. They can’t be opened by 10.3 or later. What OS are you using? The last version that will open and update these is 10.2.4. You can get a trial version of this, but only if you are running OS Sierra or earlier. It will not run in the current OS.
