What do you do if the app does not appear on the screen but is only in the list ?

This morning I was trying to figure out why all of the sudden my phone battery was tanking in 3 hours, So I started looking at what was running and I found some app that I never downloaded running in the back ground it’s off now ( I think ). It does not appear on the screen at anytime? How do I get rid of it ?
