I can't transfer photo's from my iPhone to the Mac. When I plug my partners phone in it is not reconciled at all. When I plug in mine it asks me to unlock the phone even though it is already unlocked. Have locked - unlocked, rebooted both, trusted this computer al to no avail. Can anyone help or is apple no better than windows.

Unlock and connect the phone to the computer via USB cable. Open Image Capture, and provided that the iPhone has remained unlocked, it will display all photos on the phone in the Image Capture window. You then have the option to download all, or selected photos to a folder, and again, optionally remove them from the iPhone. This is what I do with my iPhone.
Dock : Lauchpad : Other : Image Capture. Do that first. Then connect the unlocked iPhone. If it is on lock screen, Image Capture will grumble about unlocking the phone first, and once that is done, it just works. Of course, I am using an iPhone whose Apple ID matches my Mac, though that should not matter.
When I connect via USB cable photo's opens up but the iPhone is not shown in the sidebar. No photos are displayed in the image window, download all, or selected remain greyed out.
