Question: wrong ID at sign on

I am continually asked to sign on to (login) iCloud on my windows device. However, the ID that is listed is my old ID from an email I had long ago, and can no longer access. I have changed my apple ID to reflect my new email address, but the same prompt with the same erroneous ID recurs. Even entering the old password that went with the ancient ID is unsuccessful. What next?
