Not that I've read about. Why not do a Google search. If there is a way then you will find it there. Apple did this to provide an "instant on" whenever the lid was opened just as it does when it is awakened from sleep, but sleep isn't required.

No. You'd basically have to turn if off to prevent that. It's designed to wake up from sleep mode once the lid is opened.
If you want the lid open and it back in sleep mode, you can manually place it back in sleep mode. It's >Sleep.
It's intended to do that.
