Lost Photos

HI,

I had 1000 or so photos on the photos app on the camera role. When I updated to the latest IOS, all the photos were no longer available in photos.

Where have they gone? How do I locate them so I can download them from my phone to my Mac?

iPhone 6, iOS 11.2.6

Lost photos i was wanting to print photos from phone, so uploaded to Shutterfly acct. and my daughter sent all photos to deleted file and CLEARED my photos from photo app. Not all the photos uploaded and now I cannot find them and am hoping they are not completely lost. I've tried to find help online but it goes no further than the deleted spot for photos to be retrieved. I'm not savvy with iCloud and don't know if they might be there. If you can help I would appreciate it

Hopefully you created a backup to restore from.
