slow iphone

Hello, I have a iphone 6 Plus brought new from the apple store on release and it has become so slow its almost unusable now. This began since late 2017 prior to that it was fast and responsive. opening anything and progressing within apps for mail etc results in notice lag up to seconds. I have only had the camera replaced at an apple store (as part of your fault advisement) otherwise it is undamaged and untouched by others. According to your technical support at your store here in Melbourne this is a result of software updates. The only option I have, according to your staff, is to "jailbreak" the phone which could render it completely useless. As its almost so slow its useless now this option has some appeal however I would like to have my previous fast response and performance restored to my phone. Its not an issue with memory I have over 30 GB spare. What should I do, and importantly - what can apple do to help if this problem is indeed a result of the software updates that have been have rolled out?

iPhone 6 Plus, iOS 11.2.6

You're not talking to Apple here. This is a user-to-user tech forum, and we're just users like yourself.

That being said, I don't believe to my eyes... If Apple staff said that the only option you have is to "jailbreak" your device I'm really baffled. Apple wouldn't consider it a good suggestion.

Before making any changes, please follow these basic troubleshooting steps, testing your iP6+ after each attempt:

Force restart your device: press and hold both Power (side) and Home buttons for at least 10 seconds, untill you see the Apple logo. When it appears, release both buttons and wait for your iphone to restart, then test it for a while.

If this doesn't help you, I would try to install a fresh copy of iOS.

To perform this operation, make a full backup of your iP6+, then restore it to factory settings, and at the end set it up as new.

Read the instructions provided in this support guide:

Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings - Apple Support

When done, test it for a while (without restoring from backup).

If it works fine, you can exclude a hardware failure or an iOS problem.

Then restore your data from your previously made backup:

Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup - Apple Support

If it works fine, your issue is solved. If it still has problems, then it could be something coming from your data, form your apps, from your settings.

Giulio

If you purchased that iPhone 6 on release, then it is over two years old, now!

Apple has admitted to slowing down the CPU in these older iPhone 6/6S/6S Plus phone models with older, degrading performance Li-ion batteries.

Apple is offering a reduced priced ($79 to $29 U.S.D.) iPhone battery replacement for these phone which Apple has stated will bring back near normal performance of these iPhone models.

So, either contact your “local” Apple Store to make an appointment or visit your “local” Apple Store and see if the store can fit you in for the replacement battery.

It's a combination of Apple's iOS 11 slow down code and the iPhone 6's older, aging battery that is causing the performance slowness.

A new, fresh replacement Li-ion battery will, mostly, cure many of the performance ills of your iPhone 6.

Good Luck to You!
