Well, generally speaking, you don't need a reservation to buy a new iPhone (that's requested when you need assistance or service to an existing unit).
But yes, if you don't want to waste your time, then contact your most convenient Apple Store and make an appointment:
Apple - Find Locations - Location Selector (choose "sales")
